Enabling Young Widows to Forge New Paths
Date & Time:Thursday, December 4, 8 pm ET/5 pm PT
Guest Speaker: Elena Saenz Feehan, Executive Director - Global Fund for Widows
In Tanzania, widowhood often brings more than grief. It can mean economic hardship, social exclusion, and the threat of generational poverty. With the average age of widowhood just 37, many women are left to raise children without the means to provide food, healthcare, or schooling.
With support from Together Women Rise, the Global Fund for Widows is working to change that. Through the creation of Widows’ Savings and Loan Associations (WISALAs), widow-owned micro-banks, women are gaining access to capital, legal and financial literacy, and entrepreneurship training. These investments are not only increasing incomes by an astounding 2,000% a year, but also enabling widows to build sustainable livelihoods, provide for their families, and become role models in their communities.
Join us to hear from the Global Fund for Widows about how this innovative model is transforming the lives of Maasai women in Tanzania and creating lasting pathways out of poverty.
This event is free, but registration is required. All are welcome!
