Mission of CAMFED
CAMFED is a pan-African, grassroots-led movement tackling poverty, inequality, and injustice through girls’ education and women’s leadership. Its focus is on vulnerable girls and young women in rural areas of Africa. This is where girls face acute disadvantages and where unlocking their power will have a transformative impact.

Summary
This grant funds CAMFED’s Transition Program which equips vulnerable young women in rural Zambia with the skills, knowledge, and support to navigate the critical period after secondary school and transition successfully into secure livelihoods. This grant will enable 2,180 young women to participate in CAMFED’s six-month structured curriculum covering wellbeing, sexual and reproductive health, financial education, core business skills, career pathways, and active citizenship.

Grounded in peer-to-peer mentorship, the Transition Program creates a powerful ripple effect that helps young women make informed decisions, access new opportunities, and lead change within their families and communities.

Why We Love This
We love this project because it invests in young women at a pivotal moment — the transition from school to livelihood — when they are most at risk of being left behind. The peer-led model utilizes CAMFED Association alumnae to ensure the program is rooted in lived experience and community trust. The cascading approach multiplies impact, reaching thousands more through mentorship and community sharing. By combining practical skills in health, finance, and entrepreneurship with leadership development, this program creates lasting pathways for young women to thrive and become catalysts for change in their communities.
