Victory in November: A Massive Global Health Win and the Road Ahead
By Susan Wright, Co-Chair of Together Women Rise’s Advocacy Group with RESULTS
On Friday, November 21st, the current U.S. Administration recommitted to matching contributions to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria with $1 for every $2 from other donors and pledged $4.6 billion in funding. This pledge still needs to be honored by Congress in the FY26 budget and protected from future rescissions, so our work is far from over. But our tireless advocates can take a well-deserved bow!
Our Together Women Rise Advocacy Group With RESULTS works year-round to convince Members of Congress (MOCs) in both the House and Senate to fund global health and education programs. These investments are vital for the success of Rise grantees and for women and girls around the world. Through webinars and coaching calls, we share information, learn new strategies to increase our effectiveness, and take timely action together.
Please sign up here to join the Together Women Rise Advocacy Group with RESULTS. We’ll keep you informed about upcoming webinars, actions, and training. Every volunteer is paired with a coach who helps them advocate successfully.
At our November meeting, we heard from Dr. Oraib Al Smadi, a leading family physician and public health expert from Jordan. She described how past USAID support significantly improved the health of women and children and advanced the status of women and girls. She also shared the challenges caused by the abrupt end of USAID funding and what U.S. support should prioritize moving forward.

Right now, our MOCs are working on the national budget for Fiscal Year 2026, with a January 31 deadline to avoid another painful government shutdown. They must also agree on how to protect their budget authority from further rescissions, such as attempts by the current administration to claw back legally authorized funds and redirect them, as we saw earlier this year.
This is the moment to urge your senators and representative to allocate robust funding for global programs, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; Maternal and Child Health; Nutrition; AIDS relief (PEPFAR); and Global Education.
Please join us for our special Advocacy Meeting on December 9 at 8:30 PM ET / 5:30 PM PT. Our guest speaker will be Dorothy Monza, RESULTS Global Policy Team, for a conversation on the Gender Nutrition Gap
Everyone is welcome but registration is required.
