Location: Tanzania
Grant Amount: $50,000
Grantee Website: asanteafrica.org
Mission of Asante Africa Foundation
Asante Africa Foundation’s mission is to educate and empower the next generation of change agents, whose dreams and actions transform the future for Africa and the world.
Summary
Single mothers and at-risk young women in rural Kenya are severely underrepresented in the economic market and in the STEM field in general. This project seeks to bridge the gender economic divide by training and certifying cohorts of single mothers in digital literacy and STEM education to alleviate poverty and increase their economic potential. The model has proven to upskill and advance young mothers.
Why We Love This
We love that this project empowers primarily Indigenous single mothers to work in the digital labor market. The community chooses participants which allows people to see their potential as leaders. We also love that this organization focuses on continuous program improvement, and this project builds off Asante’s other programming that is grounded and staffed in the communities.
