Deborah Puretz Grove is a member of the Together Women Rise chapter in Orinda, CA, and a very talented artist. She knows how challenging the COVID-19 pandemic has been on fundraising and nonprofits, especially for an organization like Together Women Rise that counts on in-person meetings to raise money. Deb has donated 28 pieces of her art for Together Women Rise to use as incentives to encourage larger donations during this difficult time. Each piece of art is valued at $1,000 and will be given to donors who give $5,000 or more in 2020.

The medium for Deb’s art is silicon wafers. In 1991, she was given some six-inch silicon wafers that were rejects from the Micromodule Systems Company (MMS) in Santa Clara, CA. They were made from composite materials (mixed metals and plastics). Deb was able to draw on them with traditional copper etching tools. When she realized that the wafers could be used as printing plates, i.e., they held ink, she started to layer them. That is how Deb started working with these images.
In 1992, using a print shop in Oakland, CA, Deb proceeded to make prints using rejected wafers from the silicon chip manufacturing process. Over the following years, she printed over 400 works, all in editions of 25 or fewer, and most as monoprints (unique prints with collaged photographs or painting over them). Between 1982 and 2010, Deborah Puretz Grove, recognized as an industry analyst and IT thought leader, led a market research firm in Hong Kong, founded a Silicon Valley startup, and earned a patent in social media. The world’s leading IT forums provided her with the venues to convey and communicate innovative ideas. She has been recognized as a catalyst for transformation in cultural communications, sustainability, technology transfer and social responsibility.
Having earned both an MBA and MA Teaching English a Second Language, a Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership, Board experience in non- and for-profits, and civic experience as a Commissioner appointed by the Mayor of Redwood City have afforded Deb the opportunity to visit over 40 countries, live an expat life for over 15 years, and visit more public gardens and museums than most of her peers, all contributing to a very personalized and recognizable art aesthetic. She speaks German, Swedish, and French.
