Advocacy Update
It’s a new year with new beginnings and new hopes and aspirations. How will you be taking control of your third COVID winter? Perhaps we can help you channel your frustrations by training you to become an advocate, effectively raising your voice for global gender equality.
At our most recent advocacy webinar on Jan 18, we shared how COVID has impacted our lives and how we are dealing with the persistence of COVID. We are channeling that conversation to write letters to the editor, using our feelings as our hook. You can watch the webinar recording and see the accompanying slides here, and write your own letter to the editor. And feel free to reach out to me for ideas or help.
Our current focus is to push Congress to allocate $17 billion in supplemental spending for global vaccine access in the final fiscal year 2022 spending bills. We need to put pressure on Congress and the President before decisions are made on Feb 18. We know that until the entire world is vaccinated, COVID-19 will continue to mutate, potentially creating more virulent strains. And women and girls in low and middle-income countries have been most adversely impacted by this pandemic. We have potentially lost decades of progress in achieving our mission and goal of gender equality.
Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Advocacy Orientation to learn more about our approach to advocacy. If you were unable to attend, you can watch the recording at your convenience by clicking HERE. If you would like more info, please email me at advocacy@togetherwomenrise.org.
