In Idi Amin’s Shadow: Women, Gender and Militarism in Uganda

Idi Amin was a product of colonialism, and as the third president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979 was a brutal military dictator. The author, Alicia C. Decker, is a professor and the co-director of the African Feminist Initiative at Penn State University. The book is based on interviews with more than 100 women who experienced and survived Amin’s regime, and how the violence impacted them on both personal and cultural levels.
