“There is no better way to understand the impact of DFW than to see it with your own eyes.”
— Past DFW traveler

Meeting up in Lima on Oct. 19, we’ll spend the day in the lovely oceanside neighborhood of Miraflores, getting to know each other and recovering from our long international flights. The next morning, we’ll fly northeast to Pucullpa, where we’ll meet with the staff of INMED and begin our time visiting the women of the rainforest.

During our four days with INMED, we’ll travel by boat to an Amazonian river village where INMED is working to improve maternal health, throw a baby shower for their expectant mothers, and take part in an educational session at an INMED clinic. A service component is also being planned to help villagers improve their facilities.

On Oct. 24, we’ll fly back to Lima to prepare for the second half of our journey. The next day we’ll take a flight to Puno, on the shore of beautiful Lake Titicaca. We’ll take a memorable boat trip to visit the Uros floating Islands, then continue to Taquile Island where we will spend the night in homestays with local families. (Note: no hot water, outdoor toilets!).

Deadline to submit the interest form for consideration is May 15th
Priority will be given to chapter leaders and other DFW volunteers, and to those who have not traveled with DFW previously.
Group size is limited to 14 travelers.
Estimated cost is $3650 (not including international airfare), payable to Creative Travel Planners.

On Oct. 28, we’ll drive to Cusco (elevation 11,000-ft.), the historic capital of the Incan Empire, going through the picturesque Sacred Valley with plenty of stops along the way to see the sights. The next day we’ll take the train to the foot of Machu Picchu, staying overnight in Aguas Calientes to be up in time to see the sun rise over this world heritage site. Spending the day touring these incredible ruins, we’ll have a English-speaking Peruvian guide to help us understand what Incan life was like when this important temple was inhabited.

A free day in Cusco on the Oct. 31 will be followed by a farewell dinner, before flying back to Lima on Nov. 1. From there we’ll depart for home with new friends, life-long memories, and a deepened understanding of DFW’s impact on the world.

“It was an amazing trip! Traveling through the Andes was spectacular. Yes, Machu Picchu is not to be missed, but it is the women we met from INMED that I continue to hold dear in my heart.”
