Mission of Global Pearls, Inc.
The mission of Global Pearls is to reduce suffering and foster hope among marginalized populations in developing countries by empowering changemakers from within.
Summary
The primary goal of the project is to change the culture of gender-based violence in Cameroon, specifically that of child rape. Together Women Rise will fund eight, one-week-long Child Rape Prevention Camps for girls between the ages of five and 15, and 10 Girls Against Rape clubs in secondary schools. Interventions are focused on increasing awareness, education, healing, and confidence-building. These interventions will be extended to the larger community through media coverage to gradually bring about cultural change.
Why We Love This
Global Pearls, in collaboration with its partner, Rescue Women Cameroon (REWOCAM), is addressing the serious issue of gender-based violence, particularly child rape, in Kumba, Cameroon. The ongoing Anglophone crisis (civil war) and the COVID-19 pandemic have created pressures in Cameroon that make this project urgent and timely. We love this project because of its focus on building the leadership skills, knowledge base, healing, and confidence of young girls. By expanding the project to the larger community, this project seeks to propel women and girls as leaders who bring about cultural change to their schools and communities.
