Save the Rain
Project Title: Women's Water Initiative
Location: Tanzania
Grant Amount: $50,000
Grantee Website: savetherain.org
Mission of Save the Rain
Save the Rain transforms communities by harvesting rainwater and providing clean, safe drinking water to homes and schools. Its sustainable practices empower women, improve health, enhance education, create economic opportunities, ensure food security, and cultivate a brighter future for all. Saving rain saves lives.
Summary
Through this grant, teams of female builders will be employed to construct residential rainwater harvesting systems and greenhouses for 100 families. This will sustain families with readily available clean water between the rainy seasons, ending the need for women to walk long distances for water. The residential greenhouses will provide families with a consistent nutritious food supply. This project also provides employment opportunities for the women who will build the tanks and fosters future work opportunities with Save the Rain.
Why We Love This
We love that this project is community-driven and community-led, with a commitment from Save the Rain for the long term. The project will have a huge ripple effect. As women are trained to build rainwater collection systems, it increases their financial independence and their daughters can stay in school. The greenhouses also provide access to healthy foods, improving the family’s nutrition and wellness.
