Kenya 2012

Kenya - Giraffes

Kenya in September was a feast for the eyes.  We travelled by Land Cruisers on an awe-inspiring safari through Kenya.  From the dry arid lands of Samburu, teeming with elephants, to the flanks of Kenya’s highest mountain, Mt. Kenya, to the pink flamingo lakes of the Rift Valley we journeyed through some of East Africa’s most spectacular vistas.  Our final destination was Maasai Mara, where a million wildebeest had made their way from Tanzania to the Serengeti Plains of Kenya.

Along the way we visited with powerful projects and the agents of change who are making life better for so many Kenyan women and children.  We met with the leaders of Shining Hope for Communities in the Kibera Slums of Nairobi, learned about a women’s micro-finance project in Samburu and visited an inspiring Maasai women who has established a progressive school for Maasai children as well as a widow’s village.  In Nairobi, we had presentations by Huru International and the Maasai Girls Education Fund, and a private visit, just for our group, to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.
