Advocacy Update: Celebrating Our Successes!

This month I want to share some advocacy successes. The actions taken by our Together Women Rise members matter! When we take actions together it matters!

 We are currently celebrating:

  • The READ Act Reauthorization, H.R. 7240 (which stands for the Reinforcing Education Accountability in Development Act), has passed the House! Please see the press release here from lead Rep. Karen Bass of CA. You can take an online action here, directed at your Senators.
  • The Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act has passed the Senate and the House, and will now go to the President! Please see the update here on Congress.gov.
  • The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria held its 7th Replenishment in NYC and announced that they had raised $14.25 billion for the next three years. This is the largest amount ever raised, despite not yet reaching the goal of $18 billion. Read more about it here. There are still some countries—including the UK—who have yet to make their pledge.

These actions will impact the lives of millions of women and girls across the globe. Women and girls have suffered disproportionately due to the pandemic, undiagnosed and treated HIV and TB, and increasing food insecurity exacerbated by climate change and the Ukraine conflict. The disruption of school for billions has also meant the end of formal education for millions of girls who have become child brides or pregnant. The actions above will change the outcome.

As we work to attain a gender equitable world, our support of our grantees, in addition to our advocacy with Congress, help create real change. If you wish to learn more about our Advocacy Group with RESULTS, please join our monthly webinars on the third Tuesday of the month at 8:30 pm ET (5:30 pm PT). Our next webinar is Tuesday, October 18th, and you can register here.
