DFW Continues its Support for Girls’ Education with New Grant to the Peace Corps

DFW is pleased to continue its partnership with the Peace Corps in 2017 in order to support girls’ education around the world. We have awarded our second partnership grant in the amount of $70,000 to the Peace Corps Partnership Program (PCPP). The funds will be used by Peace Corps Volunteers and local communities to implement projects that address barriers to girls’ education.

This $70,000 grant is in addition to the $100,000 that DFW awarded to the Peace Corps’ Let Girls Learn Program in 2016. Last year’s grant funded 39 grassroots, community-led projects in 23 different countries.

“Our first partnership grant opened doors to learning opportunities for thousands of girls around the world, many in countries that were new to DFW,” said DFW President Beth Ellen Holimon. “I was touched to receive photos and letters from Peace Corps Volunteers who told me their work would not have been possible without our members’ donations. It is especially gratifying to know that our $100,000 grant was used to leverage an additional $128,660 from individuals, corporations, and the local communities, thus helping even more girls.”

In total, projects funded by DFW’s first Peace Corps grant in 2016 impacted over 2,416 direct participants, most of whom were girls below the age of 24, and indirectly benefitted 63,984 individuals. See the final report from our 2016 partnership grant.

“All DFW members should be proud of the impact we made with our first Peace Corps grant. Thanks to the funds we raised last year through our members’ generosity, we were able to set aside $70,000 for an additional partnership grant,” said Beth Ellen. “The Peace Corps is such a great fit for DFW because we both work at the grassroots level in some of the most remote and impoverished communities in the world. We love the fact that one hundred percent of DFW’s donated dollars are used on the ground by community partnerships with Peace Corps Volunteers.”

This second partnership grant will fund the same types of projects that we supported with our grant to the Peace Corps’ Let Girls Learn Program, including: GLOW camps and clubs; Men as Partners (MAP)/Boys Respecting Others and Self (BROS); STEM projects for girls; and Business and Entrepreneurial Training for Girls.

DFW will receive quarterly reports from the Peace Corps about the projects that we have funded. These will be shared with all members through our website and in The Dish.
